Teens with Dry Skin

You may be only of a handful of teens to have dry skin. You wonder what in the world is happening because it seems everyone else has oily skin. It's not easy being different from the rest of your peers.

First of all let's test your skin to see if it truly is dry. In the morning when you get up do the tissue test. Gently press a piece of tissue to your face. When you take it off does it have oily marks all over it? If it does you do not have dry skin, you have oily skin. Does it only have oily marks in the middle and at the top of the tissue? Then you probably have oily-combination skin in the T zone. If that tissue has no oily marks congratulations! You have dry skin. There is one other test you can do. Wash your face with a non-oil based soap. If your skin feels tight shortly after wards you have dry skin.

If you have dry acne prone skin click here.

Causes

While most teens produce more sebum because of hormonal changes within their bodies you don't. There are many reasons for this:

--You have not caught up with your peers hormonally.

--Disease such as diabetes, or you are undergoing cancer treatment, or have thyroid disease, etc.

--Nutritional deficiencies. Learn more about nutritional supplements.

--Your diet.

--You are suffering from anorexia nervosa or bulimia.

--Drinking alcohol.

--illegal or prescription drugs.

Solutions

If you just haven't caught up with your peers hormonally give it time you will. And rejoice! The chances are you will look younger longer because of it. Just look at all the other teens with zits all over their little faces because of the hormones raging inside of them and thank your lucky stars.

If you are currently going through a health crisis ask your doctor what you can do about your dry skin.

If you think you might have a nutritional deficiency that is causing your dry skin ask your parents to purchase some vitamins and minerals for your skin problems.

If your diet stinks change it! Do some research on what great foods can be added to your diet that are awesome for your skin. Impress your parents with this new knowledge and ask them to purchase some of these foods for you. They may want to even get on board and improve their health. And don't forget to eliminate the foods that you know are bad for you.

If you have anorexia or bulimia seek help immediately! These can cause serious harm to your health or even death.

Drug and alcohol use? Stop it.

In dealing with dry skin it is always best to start on the inside of your body first. This is because your skin is a reflection of what is going on on the inside. It all shows on your skin and that is why it is important to get into healthy habits now.

Skin Care For Teens

In cleansing and moisturizing the face there are 4 basic steps:

--Cleansing the face of impurities, which is hopefully what you do when you get up in the morning and the removal of makeup at night before you go to bed.

--Toning the face which is the further removal of dirt and impurities while restoring balance.

--Moisturizing which is the hydration of the skin.

--Protecting which is needed to protect your fragile skin from the environment (SPF).

--Read this if you are thinking of getting a tattoo or a piercing.

Tips For Choosing The Right Skin Care Products

--Read the label. If you don't know what is in it ask. You want non-toxic products to put on your face and body. If you can find a line of products that are safe go for it.

--Make sure it is a line of products designed for dry skin.

--Teens, if you don't listen to any of the other advice I have given please listen to this one. Make sure you purchase products that are mineral oil free, fragrance free, dye free, and alcohol free. These items are all harmful to your skin.

--Do all four cleansing and moisturizing steps each morning and in the evening before you go to bed. The only exception is if you can find a moisturizer that also has sunscreen already in it for protection. Then you would be down to 3 steps.

--Get some unprotected sunlight every day. 20 minutes each day should do it. You need the Vitamin D. Teens be smart with your skin care routines. You will be living in it for the rest of your lives.
