Your Liver



Symptoms of Liver Problems

Your liver is the second largest organ of your body. It is only out sized by your skin (the largest organ of your body). I have said it before and will time and again that your skin is a reflection of what is going on inside of you. You can strive to take scrupulous care of the outside but it is inside where the problem ultimately lies. Let's look at the symptoms of dysfunction:

--hormonal problems

--nearly every digestion problem you know of

--allergies, food and chemical sensitivities that cause dry skin rashes

--chronic fatigue syndrome

--depression, mood changes, poor concentration, and anxiety

--dysfunction in blood sugar levels

--insomnia

--blocked arteries

--sluggish metabolism and cellulite

--and get this--if you are dieting and exercising and still gain weight it may be caused by a dysfunction of this organ.

--dry, scaly skin

Remember this: if you have rashes it is a skin disorder, no rash and it is disease within your body. Of course I'm referring to in combination with the above list. I sometimes think that some of us don't really realize how close to terrible health consequences we are.



Proper function

So what is the proper function of this organ:

--produce hormones

--make cell membranes

--filter out all of the unwanted toxins

--assisting in metabolism

--aid in absorption of vitamins

--remove chemicals and bacteria from blood

--create proteins for blood cells and immune system

--aid in metabolism of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats

When the liver becomes overburdened by too many toxins it becomes less able to carry out the above roles. During its overburdened stage it can not process fat properly and instead it stores fat. This can lead to diabetes, obesity, and liver disease. The extra carbohydrates we ingest are made into fatty acids and triglycerides that will be stored in the fat cells. When we need extra energy and glucose is unavailable this is an alternative source of energy.

Through this organ the toxins we take in through our digestion, air, and skin absorption are converted to be eliminated in stools or urine. With the liver working to detoxify our bodies you can see how important good function is for this organ--in skin care, weight loss, hormone balance, acne prevention, and inflammation prevention in the body.

.....and Blood Sugar

With regard to blood sugar the liver releases and stores glucose to control our blood sugar. When the glucose is present it releases a hormone called insulin.

When it is overburdened by toxins and is unable to properly regulate your blood sugar it can lead to:

--cravings for starchy or sweet foods

--hunger

--weight gain

--fatigue

--inflammation

--premature aging

--diabetes

--dry skin

......and Hormonal Imbalance

And, in the production and cessation of your body's hormones, such as estrogen, cortisol, and the neurotransmitters serotonin and dopamine, this will result in hormonal imbalance. No wonder we hear women screaming, "I can't seem to lose weight, I can't sleep at night, and I'm tired all the time".

.....and Omega Fatty Acids

This organ also helps you absorb omega fatty acids. These acids appear to help us:

--Reduce liver fat

--Aid with improvement in the sensitivity of the hormone insulin and leptin

--Make it possible for cells to communicate with one another by allowing cell membranes to become permeable

--Raise our metabolic rate to help us burn fat and aid in the reduction of size and amount of fat cells--especially in the abdomen area.


Not enough Omega fatty acids result in:

--Dry, scaly skin

--brittle hair and nails

--weight gain

--insomnia

--depression

--insulin resistance

--heart disease

--poor concentration

--inflammation in joints

Our liver also controls our cholesterol levels. So, if you are having problems with too much cholesterol this organ will definitely need to be supported.

Now that you know

So, what can you do to help this vital organ right now?

--Begin building muscle so you can burn glucose more effectively.

--avoid consuming large amounts of sugar.

--drink plenty of filtered water.

--don't eat if you are anxious or stressed. Unwind first.

--avoid foods that you are allergic to.

--eat organically grown fresh produce.

--avoid highly processed foods.

--buy lean meat that is free range, no antibiotics, as natural as possible.

--eat plenty of raw fruits and vegetables.

--don't consume saturated or trans fats. Use natural food oils instead.

--avoid alcohol and caffeinated drinks.

--increase Vitamin C, EFA (essential fatty acids), and B complex

In the near future:

--buy a water filter. Why make yourself filter it?

--Check out some books from your local library on a more natural diet.

--Use stevia instead of sugar or sugar substitutes.

--Find a good liver cleanse product and use it.

--Find a way to reduce stress. Need ideas? Your local library should have many books related to stress reduction.

--Continue on with building muscle to burn glucose.

You should be able to see results in a month or two. I don't expect you to be a saint at this either. We are human. If you don't do well temporarily just get back to it. It takes time to learn to care for your liver. Give yourself the time you need.
