Kidneys

Your kidneys (or renal system) play an important function in filtering out toxins within your body. These two amazing organs are about the size of your fist each, and are positioned on either side of the spine just under the rib cage. Kidneys filter our blood. Each day hundreds of quarts of blood are filtered and cleansed through these organs and about 2 quarts are excreted into our bladders in the form of urine. It is a daily process of cleansing toxins from our blood to keep us and our skin healthy. Here are some of the basic functions:

--excrete waste products

--regulate the body's water content, sodium and potassium

--maintain the proper acid balance of plasma

--regulate blood pressure

--stimulate the making of red blood cells

--maintain the body's calcium level

Symptoms of Renal Failure

If your kidney function is not working properly the excess fluids and waste (toxins) will build up in the body causing some of these symptoms:

--a frequent urge to urinate (especially at night)

--swelling of hands and feet

--swelling or puffiness around the eyes

--shortness of breath--bad taste in mouth - bad breath

--fatigue

--decrease in appetite

--blood pressure increase

--blood in the urine

--back pain below the rib cage

--nausea and vomiting

--and dry itchy skin

These signs are important to recognize as loss of function of these vital organs could result in coma, seizures, or death. I think you can begin to see how important the elimination of toxins from the body is to your dry skin conditions. They often call the skin the third kidney. What ever is not filtered through these organs will have to be excreted through the skin, therefore this is the reason for many skin challenges. What ever can not be excreted through our skin or waste system will be stored in the body only to cause havoc with our health at a later time. I can tell you after doing research on toxins I want to keep as many from being absorbed into my body any way I can. Kidney problems can really hamper not only your skin but have serious consequences to your overall health.

What you can do to help

Here are a few things you could do to help your amazing filter organs:

--adequate fluids in the form of filtered water is essential for proper functioning. Drink plenty of filtered water.

--Diet plays an important role. The purer your food the less toxins you will be needing to filter from your blood. Try to go organic if possible.

--there are many cleansing products available for this organ. They are safe to use in moderation. Try to cleanse once a year.

--try antihistamines for your itchy skin (with your doctor permission of course).

--use moderation in sunning yourself. 20 minutes of sun exposure for the Vitamin D is enough daily.

--If your renal system is compromised already ask your doctor for a renal diet to help support those organs.

Always remember when dealing with your dry skin issues to start on the inside of your body. Cure what is ailing you and reap the benefits of great skin.
