Home Remedies For Dry Skin
Body Lotions
Try these home remedies for dry skin if you are notoriously frugal (as I am) and don't wish to go out and spend a small fortune trying to fix your dry skin problems. They just may be the ticket to better skin. And if they work for you, you could also be saving a lot of cash to boot.
--When every dry skin lotion you have ever tried has left you with an allergic reaction try this:
1/2 cup cocoa butter, 2 tablespoons of beeswax grated, 2 teaspoons of distilled water, 3 tablespoons of sesame oil, 2 tablespoons of coconut oil, 1 tablespoons of olive oil.
Melt beeswax, add other ingredients and mix well. Let Cool. And apply to skin. This works because cosmetics often contain extra ingredients that can irritate your skin. This is made of natural ingredients. Plus it can be fun to make your own. Give it a whirl. Some people swear by good 'ol
Petroleum Jelly.
The goopey stuff. After your bath/shower scoop a whole bunch in your hands and apply a huge layer of it to your still lightly damp skin. Yes, all over. Apply it everywhere to your dry skin. You will be a gooey mess. Now, put on a pair of socks, gloves, and a terry robe. Wait for an hour-read a book, clean a few drawers you've been meaning to clean, grab some cucumber slices to apply to eyelids and pretend you are in a fancy spa someplace. Your skin will feel wonderful for this treatment. Do this once a month. The petroleum jelly will absorb into your skin. And one other note: Put a do not disturb sign on your front door. You really don't want to have to answer the door looking like this. And, if you are a smoker don't light up. This is after all a petroleum product. Massage the skin with grape seed oil. It is a very effective home remedy for dry skin. If your dry skin is still having problems try castor oil or avocado oil. Again just another low cost home remedy.
Facial Potions
Mashed up ripe banana is another great home remedy. Mash, apply to face and neck area. Leave on for 10 minutes or so. Rinse with lukewarm water. It is better to use mineral water on your face instead of tap water. Here's another one:
1 egg, 1 teaspoon of honey, 1/2 teaspoon of olive oil, a few drops of rose water.
or: 2 tablespoons of honey, 2 teaspoons of milk. Mix. Smooth over face and throat. Leave on for 10 minutes. Rinse with lukewarm water.

In The Tub
Although showering is preferable to bathing when you have dry skin, and short baths are better than long, there are occasions when a good soak just feels right.Add some powered milk to a lukewarm tub of water. Soak for a while. Enjoy! Maybe, 1 cup of milk, and some vanilla extract for scent, would be lovely. Oatmeal has long been known to soothe and soften skin. Try this old home remedy for dry skin: 1 cup of oatmeal. Grind oatmeal to a fine powder in your food processor. Add to your lukewarm bath water and soak yourself. This is especially good for winter itch and just any itchy skin. You could also add some vanilla extract, 1/2 cup baking soda. Or how about some lavender oil for scent.
Other Home Remedies
For Dandruff-- this mainly has to do with the PH level of your scalp being too acidic. Help your scalp get back into an alkaline PH level by doing this. Wash and condition your hair as usual. Then while still in the shower pour a cup of apple cider vinegar on your head and rinse with water.Almond oil is another home remedy for dry skin. Massage into skin. Evening primrose oil is also good for your skin. Ask your pharmacist for his recommendation and how much. Spritzing your face with water after cleansing but before applying moisturizer will plump your skin and lock in more moisture. I like
Na-PCA
rather than water. If you are unfortunate to have a sunburn use yogurt as it reestablishes your PH level so it heals faster. Use plain full fat yogurt with as few additives as possible. Leave on skin until it warms up. Rinse off with lukewarm water. Reapply as needed. And stay out of the sun. Or remember sunscreen. I hope that you are able to get some relief from these home remedies for dry skin. Check back often as I plan to research for more options for this condition. Since everyone reacts differently to so many things I truly hope to be able to help everyone who visits this website. Good Luck!
