Makeup for Teens

When it comes to makeup for teens there are so many choices that it is mind-boggling. By reading this you should be able to narrow down exactly what you are looking for in the line of your first purchases and save money doing so. Don’t be fooled by all the colors and all the hype of advertising. Instead put on the blinders of determination and learn to use makeup in a way that will enhance the beauty you already possess.

Youth is definitely on your side when it comes to beauty, so capitalize on it. You have unwrinkled skin and are not having to fight the signs of aging yet. This can work in your favor! You will not need a lot of cosmetics to look well, you already do. So let’s enhance your natural beauty just a bit.

It All Starts With A Properly Cleaned Face

Always start your makeup for teens routine with a perfectly cleansed face. After you cleanse and moisturize a good dose of SPF 15 or higher is needed to protect your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays. This is important to keep from aging prematurely. Now that your skin is ready it is time to begin enhancing yourself. Remember this: When applying makeup for teens you want to look like yourself only better when you finish---not look like someone or something else. Go for a natural look unless you are attending a function where costumes are appropriate.

The Products You Need

Here are the products you will possibly need:

1. Lip Gloss

2. An Eyelash Curler

3. Concealer

4. Mascara

5. Blush or Bronzer

6. Eyebrow Pencil or Powder

7. Eyeliner

8. Eye shadow

9. Mineral Makeup

10. Cotton Swabs

You do not need to wear makeup everyday, or at all if you are not comfortable wearing it or look fine without it. Some teens look great with just a touch of lip gloss. You may be lucky enough to be one of them. These are only suggestions so if you feel that you look too unnatural with all this just simply scale back a little. You can always go glam on prom night or special events.

The Application

The Brows

Let’s start with your eyebrows. Your eyebrows are very important features on your face. Not only do they serve you well as a form of shade for your eyes, but they also frame your face. Your brows really should be professionally groomed the first time. Don’t allow them to be overly plucked. This is never a good look. Let the professional know that you just want a natural look. If your brows are sparse you may need to use an eyebrow pencil or eyebrow powder to fill in any gaps when makeup for teens are used. After filling in the gaps use an eyebrow comb to polish it off. Comb in the natural direction. Try to make your brows look as natural as possible. If you already have perfect brows skip this step completely. Or if your parents are refusing to let you get your brows groomed because of age restrictions put this off until another time.

Curl Your Lashes

Next, an eyelash curler is often the most under used implement in a persons' makeup kit. It is amazing that most women fail to use it. The importance of this tool is that it can really help to open up the look of your eyes. The curler is to be used before you put on mascara not after. If your parents won’t let you use makeup yet perhaps they would let you start curling you eyelashes. The instructions are usually on the wrapper. Make sure to read them thoroughly before starting.

Concealer

I feel the next most important thing on this list is the concealer. It is invaluable for covering up small imperfections like the odd zit or a discolored spot here or there. Do not use the applicator that comes with it over and over again as this has a tendency to spread bacteria. Instead use a cotton swab or clean applicator to apply to just the spots that are needed to cover up imperfections. One more tip: Concealer will melt with the warmth of your skin so wait a few seconds before dabbing it. This will allow it go on much easier and cover better. If this doesn’t cover well enough then wait a few minutes and apply another layer. Just keep in mind to use a light hand when using makeup for teens.

Mineral Makeup

If you feel you need it because your skin isn’t looking its best or you are attending a more glamorous event, mineral makeup could now be used to enhance your skin and its texture. Simply use the brush to swirl the mineral powder on. Use a smaller brush to smooth it out and make sure that it looks like your real skin. It should match in color as closely as possible. This isn’t necessary if your skin already looks pretty terrific. Makeup for teens should end up looking natural never like the makeup is obvious.

Blush or Bronzer?

Bronzer or blush would now be a good choice to bring some color to your face if needed. Blush should go on the apples of your cheeks and be blended to the outside of your face. Bronzer should be applied wherever sunlight would naturally land on your face; the forehead, tops of cheeks, bridge of nose, chin, and even shoulders if they are showing. Just don’t overdo it. Blend, blend, and blend again.

Mascara

To balance the color you have now applied to your cheeks it may be beneficial to apply some mascara to your curled lashes. Start at the base of the lashes and brush lightly back and forth (from side to side) ever so slightly to coat each lash and to separate. You will only need one coat. With every additional coat of mascara you run the risk of clumping, so just stick to one for everyday wear. This stuff does wonderful things to your lashes such as making them appear fuller, lusher, and longer. Choose a brown for blond haired teens, black should be reserved for teens with black hair.

Liner and Shadow

In addition to mascara for the eyes, there is also shadow and liner. If your lashes still appear on the lean side after you have applied mascara you may want to apply a thin line of eyeliner to the base of your lashes. You may need to play with the best placement of where the line ends and begins, but you will soon learn where it is placed the best to enhance your eyes. As for eye shadow choose a neutral tone to go in the crease of your lid to finish this look. You will not need bright colors for everyday wear. In fact, I would suggest forgetting the blue, violet, green, or any unnatural color in makeup for teens. Skip light tones for under the brow or on the lid. And keep the cotton swabs handy in case you need to clean up a mistake or start over without having to remove all your makeup. This just makes touch ups easier.

Lip Gloss

Finally, lip gloss. Lipstick actually can turn funny colors, due to a chemical reaction to the acid on your lips. So just forget it. Use lip gloss instead. You can really go natural with one that is uncolored or add some more color with a tinted one.

Again, you do not need to do all the above each and everyday. Makeup for teens should never be obvious. Use makeup to enhance your natural beauty. Let your inner beauty show through. Shine. Start out slowly until you have experimented enough to know what really looks good on you. You need to experiment. How else are you going to learn?
